Hi Conrad, could you please introduce yourself to our listeners?

My name is Conrad Kaden. I’m in charge of the daily business of Uncanny Valley together with Carl, Albrecht and Philipp. I’m a passionate DJ and music lover but not really much interested in producing myself (at least not now) so I thought it might be a good idea to take care of all the necessary things behind the scene.

How has the mix been recorded and what’s the idea behind it?

It has been recorded at home during the last weeks with vinyl records and a few CDs where I couldn’t get hold of the records yet. I tried to capture the kind of feeling, which I often get when walking through the woods or lying in the grass somewhere. So it was only natural to start off with CVBox since he’s a passionate outdoor guy and I can feel this spirit in “Past the eclipse”.

How long have you been deejaying and how has it evolved over the time?

I started to deejay in 2001 but I think it took until 2005 when I started trying to mix records. In the beginning it was mostly Indie Rock music and Electronica and when my interests shifted towards Dance music I wanted to learn how to mix records.
Until last year I mostly played with Philipp as The Moroders but now I’m concentrating on playing solo. At the moment my sets are mostly filled with bits of House, Disco and some techno when I’m in Rave mood. But I’m also in love with Krautrock, African and Turkish folk and funk music and early electronics. Even though I’m listening to that kind of music mostly at home I like the occasions when I’m allowed to play it in public 😉

Is there a record that triggered your interest in electronic music and brought you to deejaying?

It might sound strange but it was a combination of Indie Dance Remixes by guys like The Glimmers, melodic Techno like the Kompakt stuff, Electronica like early Four Tet and cheesy Italo Disco records. So I chose a track I still play from time to time. It was also on one of the first mix tapes compiled and recorded together with Philipp. In 2003/04 we hosted a weekly event at a bar called Madness in Dresden and for Christmas we always gave away those compilations that were kind of a summary of the year before.

What do your parents think about what you do?

To be honest I think they don’t really have a connection to the kind of music we release even though they try to understand it. I think they are fascinated in a way you are fascinated by very exotic things…

What are your projects for the next time?

Keeping the label going and releasing more excellent music by our friends. We’re in the process of setting up a sub label for Uncanny Valley, which will be a platform for Techno and rough House music.

Finally, what’s the last record before the lights are switched on?
