Sneaker Podcast

Hi, could you please introduce yourself to our listeners?

Hello, my name is Sneaker. I’m into Chicago, Italo and Synth music.

How has the mix been recorded and what’s the idea behind it?

Beyond my new EP which showcases the funky Italo-Wave-Pop side of my soul I wanted to hop back to the dirt I’m known for. The majority of the mix is exclusive shit from the wealth of Dresden producers, 2 other German underground mates and the ominous Colombian. The remaining bangers are Chicago-styled tracks or exclusive edits of New Wave classics.
It’s not a DJ-mix – it’s a studio mix with up to 4 tracks playing at the same time; vocals and samples thrown into deliberately. It’s the vision and revision of  my friends and my music – archaic, percussive, slammin’ music. This mix is really born from my social background and the minds of people I respect honestly. I’m proud of them. And – you won’t find that on beatport, sorry guys.

How long have you been deejaying/playing live and how has it evolved over the time?

I was open for any kind of dance music since the early nineties. After a short David Hasselhoff interlude I bumped into the early rave classics when I was  a teen. We were running through the school building with Westbam and Altern 8 on our walkmen. There were a lively underground scene in Jena and Thuringia had its own fanzine called T-Mag in the mid of the nineties. I was dancing and gazing at the turntables all night long at squat parties and abandoned buildings. Mikk, Foch and Gabor played Josh Wink, Strictly Rhythm, Relief – the quality stuff and I remember acts like Rok and Tok Tok. Short after I bought my set of Technics.

Is there a record that triggered your interest in electronic music and brought you to deejaying/producing?

I won’t tell you it was a Jeff Mills record when I was 10.
No, it was U96 – Das Boot.

What do your parents think about what you do?

They love me. I love them.

What are your projects for the next time?

Well, I haven’t even had the final Java/Sumatra EP on Uncanny Valley in my hands, yet…
Watch out for the follow-up of the Twilight Ritual remix – this time a remix for Spanish industrial pioneers Esplendor Geometrico on Juanpablo’s Frigio label and else the Serial Error project we contributed to the New Beat Sampler series on We Play House, Belgium. Serial Error are Jacob Korn, Credit 00 and humble me on the mic.

Finally, what’s the last record before the lights are switched on?

With my passion for Italo I’ve got a faible for kitsch, so often I end up with Amnesia – It’s a Reality.
