Uncanny Valley · UV Podcast 014 - CVBox

Hi, could you please introduce yourself to our listeners?

My artist name is CVBox and I am listening to electronic music since I was a little child. My parents introduced me to artists like Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre and Klaus Schulze. This gave me the initial kick which lasts till today.

Also I’ve listened a lot to DT64 (a radio station from the GDR which was on air till 1993) where I’ve discovered artists like “The Future Sound Of London” and then bought myself the first records. A friend of mine introduced me to DJing and together we’ve organized parties back in the days.

I’ve gained love for making analog music when a friend of mine lent me his machines (or more like stored it temporarily at my place). Ever since these experiments I am doing with my machines let me explore new worlds every day.

How has the mix been recorded and what’s the idea behind it?

At first I thought about re-recording a set which I’ve played at a party. But while remembering the list of tracks there came some more ideas to my mind. So I’ve recorded a new one on the fly at home: it’s freestyle.

How long have you been deejaying/playing live and how has it evolved over the time?

I am djing since 1995 but there was a phase between 2002 and 2007 where I’ve completely stopped with spinning records. I was always more focused on producing music with my friend Micha Freier but later went on on my own.

Is there a record that triggered your interest in electronic music and brought you to deejaying/producing?

The Future Sound Of London and of course Aphex Twin

What do your parents think about what you do?

My parents always loved what I am doing and always supported me on my way (even when it was noisy – thanks for that). My first and last live performance was at a vernissage of my mother.

What are your projects for the next time?

 keeping on.

Finally, what’s the last record before the lights are switched on?

I have no idea because every time when the light wents on it was some acid stuff 😉
