Release Insight “Karlsson”: Bloody Mary & Kim Ann Foxman

Bloody Mary & Kim Ann Foxman

That felt like it was made for each other. Perel’s Space Disco tribute to her cat “Karlsson” was refined with two wonderful remixes by Bloody Mary and Kim Ann Foxman. And we couldn’t be happier with the result.

As to every release, we thought it would be interesting to compile some background information to each release. So, here’s Bloody Mary and Kim Ann Foxman talking about how the tracks came into being.

Bloody Mary

How did the record come about? How and when did you produce the tracks?

Bloody Mary: The track came about after my friend Perel kindly asked me to remix her latest Ep. After listening to the full release, I chose to remix Karlsson because I love Perel’s voice and I absolutely wanted to use her vocal in my remix. I produced and mixed the track as usual in my Berlin studio using hardware back in February this year.

Kim Ann: I met Perel at a nice little festival in Capetown. I instantly got along. And she asked me to remix her track “Karlsson”. I remixed the track earlier this year, end of feb, Early March.

Was there a musical premise or sounds you wanted to approach?

Bloody Mary: I wanted to put my own touch on the original and strip it back a bit. As you know, I love acid and I thought a broken beat version would be a nice change from the original.

Kim-Ann: I really liked the track and the parts so good so it was really fun to work with. I just wanted to take a different angle by adding some low end and and some new hypnotic elements and just have fun with her vocals . It was fun because I didn’t know what the vocals were about until I finished the remix and then when she told me it was about her cat and sent me a pic, I loved it even more!

Is there anything special that connects you to Uncanny Valley? A record, a party or something like that?

Bloody Mary: I’m familiar with the label because I’ve been following Credit 00’s music for a while. His latest record on UV is a hit – I’ve been playing “R You Ready 2 Jack” a lot!

Kim Ann: This remix really is what first connected me to Uncanny Valley, and also special because now I’ve got a really nice friendship with Perel as well! It’s a nice intro to both!
