Gareth Psaltis is an Australian electronic music producer based in Berlin, with releases on labels such as London's' Brokntoys, Southern Italian label XCPT, and Dresden’s Uncanny Valley.
Originally from Sydney, Gareth emerged through the local techno scene, focussing on improvisation using hardware instruments. During this period, he was also involved in co-directing the label Deep Seeded Records and promoting parties within Sydney's underground scene.
After migrating to Europe in 2018 and finding himself with more limiting physical constraints, he shifted to a more in-the-box approach, obscuring samples, field recordings and synthesis in a collages-like process, forming a singular sound that takes from genres like drum and bass, industrial, illbient, IDM, post-punk and wave.
Since settling in Berlin, his personal life has also changed significantly, which has not gone unnoticed in his music. Wirth three albums under his belt, new creative approaches have led to a more reflective and focused artistic direction. This new chapter is marked not only by a shift in sound but also by his return from the pseudonym Barking to releasing music under his birth name. At the same time, his collaboration with Uncanny Valley embodies this transformation, a creative home that fosters growth, depth, and inspiration, plus new friends and collaborations.
